“Corrida al Arco” - Nina Suárez

Another day/ another re-recording. This one is from Buenos Aires’ Nina Suárez. Her stellar track, “Corrida al Arco” was initially released on 2023’s Algo Para Decirte LP, and she has released a live EP containing three tracks from that album for the new NSB en La Boca EP. Each one has a little more drive to the guitar and a little fuller mix.

When listening to “Corrida al Arco,” I get that same feeling I had in December 2017 when I first heard Lucy Dacus’ “Night Shift.” They both share sparse and intimate openings, with Dacus’ track, of course, waiting until the 4th minute to kick in to distorted guitar heaven and then another 1:45 for her vocals to go into their upper “rock” register. Suárez’s song has a faster tempo and is a little more rock-oriented than “Night Shift,” but it’s equally singer-songwriter-y to start, and by the first chorus, we’re in solid indie rock territory.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m heading to Spotify now to listen to the rest of her discography!
