"生活 (Seikatsu) - re-recording" - polly

Japanese shoegazers, polly, are back with a re-recording of their opening track from 2018 LP, “Clean Clean Clean,” titled “生活,” (or, Seikatsu). The 2018 version has a strange dichotomy of crisp lead guitar with droned-out, dark rhythm guitar filling out the shoegazing background. Lead vocalist Ryoma Koshikumo’s voice is also EQed quite darkly. The recording has its own charm in a very indie-vibe kinda way— so much so that I was skeptical when I saw that they rerecorded it.

What a wonderful surprise the new recording is! Still present is the clean lead guitar jangling the song’s hook, but the shoegazey distorted guitar blanket is now enveloping the track in a much more modern and satisfying way. The vocals are also stellar here. Everything sits so nicely together and it makes me so happy they rerecorded the track. A true winner!
